Cultural Tourism Grant 4Culture, the King County Cultural Services Agency, has a new pilot program grant opportunity that I wanted to share in case you knew of planned cultural events that would be a good fit for potential funding. “The Cultural Tourism Grant will support the marketing efforts of special arts or cultural events to increase awareness about the events outside the immediate region and draw audiences to King County for overnight stays. 4Culture actively supports initiatives that put "heads in beds" to partner with the lodging and hospitality industries in King County.”
In the eligibility it notes that the program must represent a one-time opportunity to experience a major cultural event, not an annual program with special appeal.

Gosanko Chocolate Art
We know there are quite a few new faces that are ordering our product, so we thought we would tell the story of our history so that it may help you appreciate the hard work that is behind every piece of chocolate that leaves our factory.
Gosanko Chocolate has been a family run company since its inception 27 years ago. Gus Gosanko was an artist based in Seattle who decided that he could benefit the community with his artistic abilities by starting a chocolate company. He was tired of buying hollow Easter candies that were made with cheap chocolate. He collaborated with his son-in-law, Ronnie Roberts, to create artisan chocolates that would be appreciated for not only its looks, but its great taste. Gus himself has hand-sculpted the entire line offered by Gosanko Chocolate including today’s pieces. He started with northwest themed chocolates that include the King Salmon, Baby Coho, and Ferry Boats etc. With Ron, they decided to use the best chocolate money can buy, and in turn process it further that gives Gosanko Chocolate it’s unique taste and presentation. Gosanko Chocolate prides itself on selling chocolate that not only tastes superbly delicious, but also has the best presentation. Gosanko Chocolate pieces will have a nice “snap” when broken apart as well as have a gleam to its chocolate. All pieces are hand poured and hand packaged opposed to mass producing with heavy machinery. Gus has since retired and now Ron operates Gosanko Chocolate with his wife Susan and hardworking staff of seven.
We would like to thank you for your orders that have kept our small family owned company still operating during these hard times.
Thank you, The Gosanko Family

Green River Community College to ring in Year of the Dragon
Green River Community College will host its annual Lunar New Year Party on Friday, January 27 from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Lindbloom Student Center. A major holiday for Asian cultures, the celebration marks the start of the Year of the Dragon. Celebrated throughout Asia with regional and cultural variations, common themes associated with Lunar New Year are good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity.
“No matter how different people celebrate Lunar New Year, as the most important of the traditional holidays in most eastern and southeastern Asian countries, it is the time that family members gather together for reunion,” International Student Activities Coordinator Samuel Huang said.
“It will be an eye-opening experience to participate in this event because of the diverse cultures portrayed through the performances held during the party,” Vid Wah, second year student and International Student Ambassador, said.
Organized by student groups, the Lunar New Year Festival is a way for people to get involved in college activities. Students and community members see elaborate student-led performances displaying traditions of Asian cultures.
GRCC students with ID are $7 on or before January 13 after $9. Non-GRCC students are $10. Contact the Student Life Office at 253-833-9111 ext. 2400 for more information or to purchase tickets.
